Research and innovation in collaborative autonomous robotics

On september 6 the Automation and Control Group officially opens the doors of the NRT Laboratory at the Technical University of Denmark and welcomes public and private stakeholders with interests in interdisciplinary projects applied to collaborative autonomous robotics sectors to attend the event.

The NRT-LAB mission is to discover perception-action control methods integrating bio-inspired computational models of the brains and bodies that can be used for the benefit of the society. Our team proposes the development of disruptive autonomous systems for e.g., drone inspection of civil structures to solve potential maintenance issues, collaborative robotic tasks in human workplaces to avoid repetitive and dangerous operations, assistive care for motor and neuro-rehabilitation, and modeling of brain diseases and biomarkers for early diagnosis.

The neurorobotics technology features heterogeneous robots (modular robots, soft robots and drones) able to interact with the environment and collaborate with other artificial systems or humans. All of this relies on the new generation of AI algorithms (e.g., spiking neural networks) and on neuromorphic sensors and computing devices that leverage unique learning and adaptation capabilities, and increased long-term autonomous operations thanks to less energy cost.

Associate Professor Silvia Tolu will share the vision of the research and innovation activities of the laboratory, will present highlights of the past three years of development, and will introduce potential uses of the NRT. Following this, private and public stakeholders will show their activities in synergy with the NRT lab, and to conclude, the NRT development team will demonstrate live the current capabilities of the robotic platforms.
