Conference on robots and drones for the maritime industry at R-24

Creative Destruction in the Maritime Industry: Past, Present, and Future Innovations
Creative destruction, a process where new innovations render old technologies or methods obsolete, has dramatically reshaped the maritime industry multiple times. Historically, transformative innovations include the introduction of steam engines in the 19th century, the shift to containerization in the mid-20th century, and the advent of radar and sonar technology. Currently, the maritime industry is rapidly evolving, with a strong push towards greater automation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the integration of new green technologies, and a widespread move towards digitization. This technological surge is bringing to the forefront critical questions about the very nature of vessels and their operation.
By adding new drives for change such as digital twins, autonomous vessels, Remote Operation Centers, enhanced connectivity, the use of drones, advances propulsion technologies and new materials and designs, the industry is likely entering the most rapid and turbulent period of transition in the maritime history.
However, this rapid transformation faces a significant hurdle: existing international maritime legislation. Current laws are primarily based on human liability and assume ships operate in isolation, disconnected from the world. These laws and the education of maritime professionals may struggle to accommodate new realities and the adaptation of new technology.
- Welcome to Odense Robotics, by BlueTech Centre and Odense Robotics.
- Technological trends in the maritime sector, by Thomas Gulløv Longhi.
- How to transform standard vessels into maritime drones
- Welding robot for shipbuilding, by/ representative from Inrotech
- Panel debate, Mads Skovgaard Rasmussen, Thomas Gulløv Longhi, Representative from Inrotech and Representative from drone company.
The panel debates the questions:
- How do we increase the development and utilisation of robots and drones in the maritime sector?
- What is the need for robots and drones in the maritime sector?
- Are today's technological solutions suitable for the industry?
- How can we side-step existing solutions into the maritime sector?
